The rules: Clear Ways & Parking

Another departure from our usual format here at the Dick Moves Blog – a proposal about what the rules should be when you break a law.

Today…

Parking Illegally

If you park illegally you may get a fine if a parking inspector happens across your vehicle after the designated time has passed.  Obviously, in some places, you’re more likely to be caught.

While we here at the DMB think that fining people for overstaying their time in a parking space that has no effect on traffic flow and while there are plenty of other spots available is a bit draconian, in some cases parking restrictions are absolutely necessary.

However, we want to talk about Clear Ways inparticular.

For example:

If a parking area is designated as a Clear Way between certain times it has most likely been done to aid traffic flow.  On a two-lane road a Clear Way can make the difference between traffic flowing relatively smoothly and a clusterfuck.  One single douchebag that ignores the clear way signs (despite the best efforts of tow-truck drivers) can screw up an entire road because traffic has to squeeze around them.

What the Rules Should Be

We think that the rule should be:

If you park illegally (say, in a Clear Way), other drivers can crash into your car and it’s your fault.  Your insurance takes a hit, you have to pay for your car and the other driver’s also.

Yes, this would likely give people reason to buy old junkers and go trawling for dicks who have parked illegally but it would also stop people parking illegally pretty quick.
